Good morning, farm members,
Most of our efforts lately have been on weeding and mulching. Both Robin and I have a strong wish to have everything cared for and in good order. It's a project and a worthy goal. By Thursday, the greens area should be beautifully mulched. We set out fall broccoli and cauliflower and will be planting fall beets and carrots this week.
The Red Ranger chicks will be arriving this week. Lots of poultry growing around here.
We are enjoying growing and sharing the harvest with you. It's really nice when a crop comes in strong so there is plenty for everyone. Chard and mesclun have reached that point. The kale is getting bigger but the squash and cucumbers are still teasing us. Lots of little fruit that aren't ready yet. There are small carrots forming, about 1/2 inch thick so far, beets still are mostly tops but the roots should get big pretty soon.
Pick up has been going pretty well. When you pick up, please remember to check off your name on the chart. It is very helpful to know who has come and who hasn't. And if you can't make it, please get in touch. If we know before Wednesday that you will have trouble coming on Thursday, then sometimes we can accommodate you.
We could use some quart-sized berry boxes, cardboard or wood. If you have them to spare, please bring them along. Thanks.
The Pick-Your-Own (PYO) garden has a few things ready for harvesting. Parsley and cilantro need picking and the first snap peas are ready. Check it on Thursday!
FARM SHARE # 5 - July 2, 2015
This week we will be picking:
Radishes
Mesclun
Head lettuce
Bok choy
Kohlrabi
Cooking greens - baby kale, chard, baby beet greens, chicory
Shimonita onions - these are also called Asian onions, kind of like a leek/scallion cross
Herbs - basil, sage, sorrel
Garlic scapes?
Cucumbers, broccoli, mushrooms, ?
Most likely we'll have a choosing area for the big shares
Flowers are growing plants mostly so far but there should be yarrow, snapdragons, more of the delphiniums, and odds and ends. Enjoy!
Pick up is 2:00 - 7:00. Bring a jar for your flowers.
See you Thursday!
